What is the Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) ?

BTEI provides part-time education programmes for young people and adults. The aim is to give people an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. BTEI programmes are offered in the mornings, afternoons and evenings. Courses are offered in both Dundalk and Drogheda and are free for any adult with less than a Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) qualification. Courses are also free for anyone in receipt of a means tested social welfare payment. Qualified adults whose partners are receiving a payment may also apply.

 Who is this service for?

BTEI classes are available to all those who have left full-time education. Priority is given to those whose education is below Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) level.

What programmes does this service offer?

BTEI can offer FETAC certification from Level 3 to Level 5. Examples of programmes offered:

  • Part-time Leaving Certificate
  • Computers
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Childcare
  • Youth Work
