At a recent meeting Co. Louth VEC adopted their new five year Education Plan. The plan covers the period 2011-2015 and will now be officially launched on Tuesday, 21st September in St. Oliver’s Community College, Drogheda by Mr. Denis Cummins, President of Dundalk Institute of Technology.

Co. Louth VEC today welcomed the announcement by the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Ms. Mary Coughlan, T.D., of her intention to establish a Second-Level Patronage Advisory Group. The Minister’s announcement heralds significant reform of the Departments’ process for recognition of new second-level schools.

The recent alleviation to the moratorium on the filling of posts of responsibility in schools that has been in place since March 2009 has brought no benefits to the county’s VEC schools. The limited alleviation is focussed on those schools that were acutely affected at assistant principal post level by the moratorium. Speaking this week, Dr. Pádraig Kirk, CEO of Co. Louth VEC said that “while the management structures in each of our schools have been seriously affected since the introduction of the moratorium the alleviation recently announced by the Tánaiste brings with it no benefits for Co. Louth VEC”.
