| Louth VEC to host meeting of Special EU Programmes Body |

Co. Louth VEC will play host to a prestigious meeting of the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) next month. SEUPB have just confirmed that both their PEACE III Programme Monitoring Committee and their INTERREG IVA Programme Monitoring Committee will meet in the VECs offices at Chapel St. Dundalk on 20th October 2010. SEUPB is a North/South Implementation Body sponsored by the Department of Finance in Ireland and the Department of Finance and Personnel in Northern Ireland. The main role of SEUPB is to manage cross-border European Union Structural Funds programmes in Northern Ireland, the Border Region of Ireland and parts of Western Scotland.
SEUPB currently operate two long-term programmes (2007-2013) on behalf of the EU, namely the Peace and Reconciliation Programme (PEACE III) and the INTERREG IVA Programme. SEUPB is responsible to the European Commission, the Northern Ireland Executive and the Irish Government for the delivery and management of these programmes.
Speaking about this surprise announcement, Dr. Pádraig Kirk, CEO of Co. Louth VEC said that “it is widely recognised that the SEUPB have made an enormous impact in the border counties region and in Northern Ireland in terms of enhancing cross border co-operation, promoting reconciliation and creating a more peaceful and prosperous society; Co. Louth VEC are delighted to be hosting this very important meeting at our head office in Dundalk”.
Co. Louth VEC currently operates two PEACE III programmes funded by the Louth Peace and Reconciliation Partnership. One of these programmes aims to enhance the capacity of ethnic minority communities in Co. Louth while the second programme is aimed at promoting an awareness of cultural diversity in VEC schools. |
