Co. Louth VEC this week launched its new five year education plan in St. Oliver’s Community College, Drogheda. School principal, Mr. Dan Toole, welcomed everybody to the launch including members of the Co. Louth Vocational Education Committee,
VEC staff members as well as representatives of parent councils, boards of management and local education partners. The launch provided an opportunity for St. Oliver’s to put on view the new refurbishments that took place during the recent summer break.
Chairperson of Co. Louth VEC, Cllr. Oliver Tully, welcomed the new education plan stating that it provided “all VEC personnel with opportunities to further modernise the organisation, enhance the quality of services that it provided and develop systematic supports for stakeholders at all levels”. Cllr. Tully stated that the VECs new mission statement “reflected our intention to anticipate change and to grasp opportunities to deal with it proactively”.
Also welcoming the new education plan was Dr. Pádraig Kirk, CEO of Co. Louth VEC who stated that “it was a plan for the people of Co. Louth that clearly set out the strategic direction of the organisation, particularly in terms of the provision of high quality education services for the next five years”. He outlined that the plan was based on an extensive consultation process with all stakeholder groups, “I am confident that the plan addresses current concerns and ambitions, while simultaneously taking cognisance of trends and developments at local, national and European level”.
Dr Kirk thanked all those who were involved in developing the plan, in particular staff member Ms. Shivaun O’Brien who coordinated its development. Also acknowledged were the members of the plan’s steering and planning committees and all the staff, students and education partners who participated in the consultation process.
The plan was officially launched by Mr. Denis Cummins, President of DkIT. In his address to the gathering Mr. Cummins praised the consultation process that was undertaken as part of its development, “the process was thorough and omitted nobody; this is a clear testament to values such as cooperation, inclusiveness and a drive for efficiency which clearly underpin the work of Co. Louth VEC as an organisation”. Mr. Cummins acknowledged the close and longstanding links between Co. Louth VEC and DkIT and wished the organisation every success in implementing all facets of its new plan.
